We are doing some state testing here at the school in Oberon, so this week I am “Test Adminstrator” for one 7th grade girl. Right now she is working on a writing assignment, imagining that she is 70 years old and writing about the life she has led. My heart aches to think how some of the lives here are lived . . . hard, hurtful lives. I am praying even now that the Holy Spirit would give this young girl a vision for what life COULD be for her. Pray that the Lord will continue to give opportunities for me to speak truth!
My mornings here at the school have really turned out to be a good way to make connections with the kids and some of their families. The 4th-6th grade girls just finished their basketball season (it was short!) and the boys are just starting theirs. I’m planning to cheer loud at the many upcoming basketball games across the reservation!
Tonight I have Bible study with the youth at Tokio. . . we’re reading through the book of John and will be on chapter 4 tonight. I have been so encouraged (and quite honestly, surprised) by the youth that have been coming. Several girls who I have worked with in past years at FaHoCha Bible Camp have been coming. I am SO excited for them to have some type of follow-up during the year! Also, several “tough guy” 10th grade boys have been coming (!). They come with their MP3 players and have one ear bud in while we are having Bible study, BUT they are hungry for truth and have already been asking questions and adding comments to our discussions. Pray that the Lord would continue to reveal His truth to them and that the Holy Spirit would be drawing their hearts to Him.
Tomorrow evening I will be at the Tokio church again for a meeting about a community Christmas program we are putting together. Several churches from the reservation are getting together to do a joint Christmas program. Those of you who are close enough are welcome to attend on December 15 (details to come later).
Our Bible study next week falls on Halloween, so we are planning to have a pizza/movie night at the church. Lots of interesting things coming up here . . . we appreciate your prayers!
