Today I met the mother of the little boy who was reading his Learn-To-Read Bible at recess.
She was at the school this morning and happened to walk down the hall while her son’s teacher and I were talking. I listened as the boy’s teacher told us about how he reads in the classroom and how he does such an amazing job of concentrating when he is reading his Bible. He has been reading it in the classroom and reading it out loud to his sister. The teacher said that some of the other kids want to read it, so they’ve been reading it, too! The boy’s mom told us that someone gave the Bible to him as a gift awhile ago and they put it away. Just last week, he found it and has been reading it since. His mother also told me that he is always asking questions about God.
Due to the boy’s usual difficulty with reading, he will be placed in a special reading program in the mornings. You can imagine how excited I was when I found out that I will be the one who gets to instruct his reading time every morning! Just me and him. We will have a specific reading agenda to follow and specific stories to read, but this will also be time to encourage and pray for this little warrior. I wonder if the person who gave that Bible had any idea how the Lord would use it in this child’s life . . . His Word never returns void. Isn’t the Lord amazing?!
