On Wednesday nights after Bible study, I usually ask the group if they have anything they want to pray about before we close. Usually they joke around, elbow each other, point, and say things like, “Yeah, you gotta pray for this guy!” or “That guy wants you to pray for him.” There was some of the usual joking around this past Wednesday night as the ten of us stood in a circle and got ready to pray, but then a hand went up and the young man said, “This is a serious one, so don’t laugh…”
Everyone seemed to know that what was coming wasn’t a joke. The young man who spoke is one of the “regular” Wednesday-night boys. He spent a few days in jail last week due to a fight at home that involved him, his mom, and his mom’s boyfriend.
“…pray for my mom. That she gets off drugs and stuff,” he said.
If my heart could have physically broken into pieces, it would have shattered when I heard that plea. I watched him as he spoke and nodded when he looked at me.
And then we prayed. I thanked the Lord for each of them and asked Him to protect them. We asked the Lord to speak truth to this young man’s mom and give her strength to get off of the stuff that was ruining her life. We also asked the Lord to give this young man strength and wisdom for how to help her. Please join us as we continue to pray for him and his mom.
I feel like I say this every time I write, but I really am so incredibly blessed to get to know these kids and be involved in their lives, even in a small way. Any good that comes is the Lord’s doing and is only by His grace and His planning. I am humbled to be a part of this…
Thanks to you for being a part of this, too.
